– Thế năng trọng trường là thế năng được xác định bởi vị trí của vật so với mặt đất. Khi vật nằm trên mặt đất thì thế năng trọng trường của vật bằng không.
– Vật có khối lượng càng lớn thì có thế năng càng lớn.

– Thế năng của vật phụ thuộc vào mốc tính độ cao (do ta có thể lấy một vị trí khác mặt đất để làm mốc tính độ cao) và khối lượng của vật.
2. Thế năng đàn hồi là gì?
– Thế năng đàn hồi là thế năng phụ thuộc vào độ biến dạng đàn hồi.
II. Động năng
– Cơ năng của vật do chuyển động mà có gọi là có động năng. Vật có khối lượng càng lớn và chuyển động càng nhanh thì động năng càng lớn.
– Động năng và thế năng là hai dạng của cơ năng. Cơ năng của một vật bằng tổng thế năng và động năng của vật đó.
* Lưu ý:
+ Khi một vật có khả năng thực hiện công cơ học (chứ không cần vật đã thực hiện công cơ học) thì vật đó có cơ năng.
