I. Cường độ dòng điện
1. Thí nghiệm
– Nhận xét: Với một bóng đèn nhất định, khi đèn càng sáng thì số chỉ của ampe kế càng lớn.
2. Cường độ dòng điện
– Số chỉ ampe kế cho biết mức độ mạnh hay yếu của dòng điện. Cường độ dòng điện ký hiêu bằng chữ I.
– Đơn vị đo cường độ dòng điện là ampe, ký hiệu là A.
– Để đo dòng điện có cường độ nhỏ, người ta dùng đơn vị miniampe, ký hiệu là mA.
1mA = 0,001A; 1A = 1000mA.
II. Ampe kế
• Ampe – kế là dụng cụ để đo cường độ dòng điện
• Ký hiệu A và mA.
• Ký hiệu ampe kế trên sơ đồ mạch điện: 
* Có thể em chưa biết: Đơn vị đo cường độ dòng điện được đặt theo tên của nhà bác học người Pháp Ampe (André Marie Ampère, 1775 – 1836).

– Mắc A nối tiếp với vật cần đo cường độ dòng điện.
– Mắc cực dương của A về phía cực dương của nguồn điện.
– Mắc cực âm của A về phía cực âm của nguồn điện.
* Lưu ý: Khi sử dụng Ampe – kế để đo cường độ dòng điện
– Cần chọn ampe kế có giới hạn đo phù hợp với kết quả cần đo, ampe kế có độ chia nhỏ nhất càng nhỏ thì độ chính xác của kết quả đo càng cao.
– Mắc chốt (+) của ampe kế với cực dương của nguồn điện, KHÔNG được mắc 2 chốt của ampe kế trực tiếp vào 2 cực của nguồn điện để tránh làm hỏng ampe kế và nguồn điện.
IV. Bài tập về cường độ dòng điện
* Câu C1 trang 66 SGK Vật Lý 7: a) Trên mặt ampe kế có ghi chữ A (số đo tính theo đơn vị ampe) hoặc mA (số đo tính theo đơn vị miliampe). Hãy ghi giới hạn đo (GHĐ) và độ chia nhỏ nhất (ĐCNN) của ampe kế ở hình 24.2a và hình 24.2b vào bảng 1.
b) Hãy cho biết ampe kế nào trong hình 24.2 dùng kim chỉ thị và ampe kế nào hiện số.
c) Ở các chốt nối dây dẫn của ampe kế có ghi dấu gì? (hình 24.3).
d) Nhận biết chốt điều chỉnh kim của ampe kế được trang bị cho nhóm em.

• Lưu ý: Có thể chọn ampe kế 2A để đo cường độ dòng điện 15mA hay 0,15A nhưng có thể khi đọc số chỉ trên ampe kế 2A sẽ kém chính xác vì độ chia nhỏ nhất trên ampe kế 2A có thẻ lớn hơn độ chia nhỏ nhất của ampe kế 15mA hay 0,15A.
* Câu C5 trang 68 SGK Vật Lý 7: Ampe kế nào trong sơ đồ hình 24.4 được mắc đúng, vì sao?
