* Lời giải:
– Chỗ tiếp nối hai đầu thanh ray đường tàu hoả có để một khe hở.
– Người ta làm như vậy là vì nếu chổ tiếp nối giữa hai đầu thanh ray không có khoảng cách thì khi trời nóng, các thanh ray nở ra sẽ đẩy nhau và làm cong đường ray, dẫn đến tai nạn khi xe lửa chạy qua.
– Do đó chỗ tiếp nối giữa hai thanh ray phải có khoảng cách để các thanh ray khi nở ra vì nhiệt sẽ không tác động lực lên nhau và đường ray sẽ không bị cong.
> Lưu ý: Mặc dù chỗ tiếp nối hai đàu thanh ray đường tàu hỏa đã để khoảng cách cho thanh ray nở ra khi nhiệt độ tăng. Nhưng khi nhiệt độ tăng quá nhiều thì các thanh ray vẫn bị uốn công, điều đó cho thấy lực giãn nở vì nhiệt là rất lớn.
* Câu C6 trang 66 SGK Vật Lý 6: Hình 21.3 (hình dưới) vẽ gối đỡ ở hai đầu cầu của một số cầu thép. Hai gối đỡ đó có cấu tạo giống nhau không? Tại sao một gối đỡ phải đặt trên các con lăn?
* Lời giải:
– Hai gối đỡ đó có cấu tạo không giống nhau.
– Một đầu được đặt gối lên các con lăn, tạo điều kiện cho cầu dài ra khi nóng lên mà không thể gây ra lực lớn làm ảnh hưởng đến cầu.
II. Băng kép (tính chất, cấu tạo và ứng dụng)
• Băng kép là gì (Cấu tạo của băng kép)
– Băng kép có cấu tạo là 2 thanh kim loại có bản chất khác nhau, thí dụ đồng và thép, được tán chặt vào nhau dọc theo chiều dài của thanh.
• Tính chất của băng kép
– Đồng và thép nở vì nhiệt khác nhau
– Khi bị hơ nóng, băng kép cong về phía thanh đồng. Đồng dãn nở vì nhiệt nhiều hơn thép nên thanh đồng dài hơn nằm phía ngoài vòng cung.
– Băng kép đang thẳng, nếu làm nó lạnh thì nó bị cong về phí thanh thép. Đồng co lại vì nhiệt nhiều hơn thép nên thanh đồng ngắn hơn (thanh thép dài hơn sẽ nằm ngoài vòng cung).
• Ứng dụng của băng kép
Băng kép được sử dụng nhiều ở các thiết bị tự động đóng – ngắt mạch điện khi nhiệt độ thay đổi.
* Ví dụ: Bàn là điện sử dụng băng kép để tự ngắt mạch điện khi đạt đến nhiệt độ nóng nhất định, và đóng mạch trở lại khi bàn là nguội đi.
– Thanh đồng nằm dưới băng kép vì đồng dãn nở vì nhiệt tốt hơn các kim loại thông dụng nên khi đung nóng băng kép, nó giúp băng kép cong lên phía trên sẽ làm chốt khóa mở ra, mạch điện bị ngắt.
Như vậy, qua các ví dụ trên, các em thấy sự giãn nở vì nhiệt của chất rắn được ứng dụng khá nhiều trong đời sống và kỹ thuật. Sự co dãn vì nhiệt khi bị ngăn cản có thể gây ra những lực rất lớn. Người ta ứng dụng đặc điểm cong lại của băng kép (khi đốt nóng hoặc làm lạnh) để thiết kế các mạch điện đóng ngắt tự động.
