I. Áp lực là gì?
– Áp lực là lực ép có phương vuông góc với mặt bị ép.
* Câu C1: Trong hình a) ở trên (hình 7.3a SGK) thì trọng lượng của máy kéo là áp lực; Ở hình b) (hình 7.3b SGK) thì lực của ngón tay tác dụng lên đầu đinh và lực của mũi đinh tác dụng lên bảng gỗ đều là áp lực.
II. Áp suất là gì? Công thức tính Áp suất.
1. Tác dụng của áp lực phụ thuộc vào các yếu tố nào?
– Cùng diện tích bị ép như nhau, nếu độ lớn của áp lực càng lớn thì tác dụng nó cũng càng lớn.
– Cùng độ lớn của áp lực như nhau, nếu diện tích bị ép càng nhỏ thì tác dụng của áp lực càng lớn.
→ Như vậy, tác dụng của áp lực phụ thuộc vào diện tích bị ép và độ lớn của áp lực.
* Câu C3: Tác dụng của áp lực càng lớn khi áp lực càng mạnh và diện tích bị ép càng nhỏ.
2. Áp suất là gì? Công thức tính áp suất
• Áp suất là gì?
– Áp suất là độ lớn của áp lực trên một đơn vị diện tích bị ép.
• Công thức tính áp suất?
– Áp suất được tính bằng công thức: 
Trong đó: p là áp suất; F là áp lực tác dụng lên mặt bị ép có diện tích S.
– Công thức tính áp lực: F = p.S
3. Đơn vị của áp suất
– Nếu đơn vi lực là niuton (N), đơn vị diện tích là mét vuông (m2) thì đơn vị của áp suất là niuton trên mét vuông (N/m2), còn gọi là paxcan. ký hiệu là Pa: 1Pa = 1N/m2.
> Lưu ý:
– Vì Pa quá nhỏ nên trong thực tế, người ta dùng đơn vị lớn hơn là bar: 1bar = 105Pa.
– Ngoài ra, người ta cũng dùng atmotphe làm đơn vị áp suất. Atmotphe là áp suất gây bời một cột thủy ngân cao 76cm: 1atm = 103360Pa.
– Để đo áp suất người ta có thể dùng áp kế.
III. Vận dụng
* Câu C4 trang 27 SGK Vật Lý 8: Dựa vào nguyên tắc nào để làm tăng, giảm áp suất? Nêu những ví dụ về việc làm tăng, giảm áp suất trong thực tế.
* Lời giải:
– Từ công thức p = F/S. Ta thấy, để tăng áp suất thì ta phải phải tăng áp lực và giảm diện tích bị ép.
– Ví dụ: Lưỡi dao, lưỡi kéo thường mài sắc, mũi đinh thường thật nhọn để giảm diện tích bị ép.
* Câu C5 trang 27 SGK Vật Lý 8: Một xe tăng có trọng lượng 340 000N. Tính áp suất của xe tăng lên mặt đường nằm ngang, biết rằng diện tích tiếp xúc của các bản xích với đất là 1,5 m2. Hãy so sánh áp suất đó với áp suất của 1 ô tô nặng 2000N có diện tích các bánh xe tiếp xúc với mặt đất nằm ngang là 250 cm2.
Dựa vào kết quả tính toán ở trên, hãy trả lời câu hỏi ở phần mở bài: Tại sao máy kéo nặng nề lại chạy được bình thường trên nền đất mềm, còn ô tô nhẹ hơn nhiều lại có thể bị lún bánh và sa lầy trên chính quãng đường này?

– Ta quy đổi: S2 = 250 cm2 = 0,025 m2

Sở dĩ máy kéo chạy được bình thường trên nền đất mềm còn ô tô thì rất khó chạy trên nền đất mềm và thường bị sa lầy vì máy kéo có các bản xích giống như xe tăng, áp suất do máy kéo tác dụng xuống mặt đường nhỏ hơn so với áp suất của ô tô tác dụng xuống mặt đường.
Như vậy, các em cần ghi nhớ: Áp lực là lực ép có phương vuông gó với mặt bị ép; Áp suất được tính bằng công thức p = F/S trong đó p là áp suất (đơn vị là Pa: 1Pa = 1N/m2), F là lực (đơn vị niuton (N)), S là diện tích (đơn vị mét vuông (m2)).
